Our relationship model is your San Antonio passport to global access. The department serves as the city’s official foreign affairs liaison with the diplomatic corps, government, educational and cultural organizations.  We advise elected city officials, department representatives, and the business community on international protocol and provide training on cross-cultural communications and etiquette. As a result of long standing efforts, San Antonio was Awarded Sister Cities International's Best Overall Program Award for large cities at its 50th Anniversary Conference.

Sister Cities
San Antonio’s Sister Cities have brought cultural enrichment to our diverse community while paving the way for significant economic development. Exchange sponsorships have been a community-wide effort in area schools, ethnic organizations, corporations and citizen groups.   Many of these relationships have initiated by these local organizations and have sponsored programs along with their counterparts in the corresponding Sister City.

San Antonio Diplomats
San Antonio may not be the main hub for foreign diplomats in the State of Texas but there is need for diplomatic services. One of those is the Consulate General of Mexico that is stationed downtown due to the majority of San Antonio's population coming from an ethnically Hispanic background. In addition to the official representation of the Government of Mexico San Antonio is also home to a number of Honorary Consul Generals.
